Abstract | Eliciting is used traditionally in frontal teaching. Once learners have been exposed to the technique, though, they can be encouraged to use it themselves in pair work or group work. Eliciting allows learners to offer real content that is relevant and meaningful to them. Texts that are open to interpretation (e.g. cartoons, poems) offer scope for both teachers and learners to elicit personal comment and engage in vibrant discussion. (Verlag). |
