Students encounter argumentations in the setting of several scientific disciplines. Mathematics with its specific rules poses demanding problems for learners. International and national studies show that even at the end of their school education, many learners are hardly able to formulate mathematical proofs on their own. A possible explanation for these nonsatisfying learning outcomes is that the specific rules for acceptable argumentations within mathematics are not transparent for most students. Based on a conceptual analysis of this methodological knowledge, we present a reanalysis of two quantitative empirical studies with special focus on this domain of knowledge and its connection to geometrical proof competency. |
