Abstract | Two key elements for successful professional development of teachers are exchange and collaboration during the implementation of recently acquired teaching concepts. The authors took a closer look at factors that support the collaboration of teachers and investigated whether this collaboration / this factors can be fostered in the context of in-service teacher training. During the training the teachers were assisted in constructing a common goal for their collaboration and were offered tools and materials to improve discussion and exchange. The results illustrate that a successful strategy to enhance the collaboration of teachers is to implement interventions that define common goals and emphasise the advantage of collaboration while, at the same time, safeguarding the autonomy of the teachers.
