Abstract | The TUM [Tolerance and Understanding of our Muslim Neighbours] Project was initiated to show the current state, or lack of it, of inter-religious dialogue between the Christian and the Muslim faith in selected European countries, and how it could be improved. In this respect, this book is full of interesting reading for all those who wish to practise understanding and tolerance not only with Muslims as neighbours, but also with them as people who are part of [the] European societies. Issues of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue will continue to be part of [the] work [of the Institut für Internationale Zusammenarbeit des Deutschen Volkshochschul-Verbandes (IIZ/DVV)], even though this cooperation within TUM has come to an end. The NILE [Network Intercultural Learning in Europe] network will last for at least another year and on extension for a further period is being considered. The European Commission funded the TUM Project within its Grundtvig [Action to encourage Lifelong Learning] programme; this, and the additional support of the partners themselves, was instrumental in its success.
