Carbon dioxide in the air contributes to climate change -- this is common knowledge. Less known is the fact that it also attacks buildings of reinforced concrete. The article explains how this can be understood, how to model it, what this has to do with multi-scale methods, and which role mathematicians play in this subject area. |
