Abstract | These papers cover a number of key issues and have been written, individually or collectively, by 32 authors from several different European regions. There are three main threads running through these papers which cover the following themes: mobility and the European dimension in teacher education, evaluation cultures in teacher education and advancing research in and on teacher education. [...] The conclusions and recommendations from the 2008 TEPE conference focus on the need to improve the image of teaching, the status of the teaching profession and the importance of involving teacher education institutions as partners in the proves of policy development. In particular, they highlight the need to advance research in and on teacher education, promote mobility and the European dimension in teacher education and to support the development of cultures for quality improvement in teacher education.
