Abstract | "Hannah Arendt is one of the most renowned thinkers of the 20th century. A significant amount of literature is devoted to Arendt's biography, her writings, her (sometimes controver-sial) approaches and theses. Moving beyond classical biographies, this hook provides a new, interdisciplinary approach by integrating the entire corpus of Arendt's writings: private and public texts, correspondences, and interviews. The main focus is the pariah - a concept that takes shape through the intertwining of Arendt's personal experiences translated in theoretical frames. As pariah, Arendt acts from a self-chosen and self-conscious position at a critical distance to ultimate truths, political monopolies, totalitarianism, and discipline-oriented narrow-mindedness. She takes up this position in different roles: as a Jewess, as a woman and as an intellectual. Arendt struggles, distances herself, transcends (gender) boundaries, national(istic) affiliations and languages, disciplines and academic codes of behavior - all through her interest, almost love, for the world."
