| Abstract | Innerinstitutionelle Hochschulforschung als Institutional Research bezeichnet eine Form der Selbstuntersuchung von Hochschulen, die Wissen und Deutungen über interne Vorgänge und Strukturen von Hochschulen produziert, um die zur Verfügung stehenden zunehmend knappen Ressourcen effektiver zu nutzen. Die Autorinnen zeigen am Beispiel von Forschungsprojekten am Hochschuldidaktischen Zentrum der Universität Dortmund typische Fragestellungen der innerinstitutionellen Hochschulforschung, wie z. B.: Was weiß eine Hochschule über sich selbst und wie generiert sie dieses Wissen? Auf welcher Grundlage handeln Hochschulleitungen und ihre Subeinheiten? (HoF/Text teilweise übernommen). The authors discuss what knowledge can be anticipated from investigating the typical questions of institutional research. Although this has a long tradition in the USA, also in the variant known as monitoring, Germany only got started here in the 1970s-particularly within an empirically conceived research on teaching principles in higher education and evaluation with corresponding research projects in their own institutes (e.g., their own students selection behavior when choosing their college and course-sometimes assignet the self-ironic label of "Snow Whit Research" - "Who is the most beautiful of them all...?"). The more explicitly that higher education institutes take an active role on the education market, the more they will depend on data-supported, self-reflective activity. The scarcer the resources, the more institutes will need to engage in self-evaluation. This will empower them to act more rationally, and attain effectiveness with well-conceived and transparently presented goals-thus gaining an internal legitimacy for their activities as well. In Germany, there are still only few institutes with such departments of their own or even just posts. However, they will increasingly learn to appreciate them. The article takes examples from projects at the HDZ Dortmund to depict typical forms of cooperation and issues in internal research at higher education institutes. (HoF/text adopted). |
