Abstract | This article critically examines the structural marginalization of learning disabled children within Singapore's education system as a function of state social control policies. It analyzes the categorical similarity between these children and another group - the ethnic Malay minority - as groups the state deliberately shuts out of the education system for political economic reasons. Such comparison will reveal the state's broader social engineering project to create in Singapore a society in which power, wealth, and labor are disproportionately distributed among different classifications of people. ... The focus of this article [is] on the confinement of learning disabled children within the country's special education program and their segregation from mainstream educational policies.
