Abstract | "The fields of upper secondary level, college, and vocational education have been neglected by interest research until now. This paper will examine the findings that do exist in light of Wittrock's statement (1992, p. 138) that educational psychology has as its primary goal the understanding and improvement of education. From that point of view what interest research has contributed to understanding and improving education at the secondary level will be discussed. We will begin by examining the stability of interests, whether students have developed accentuated interests, and whether these interests change during the course of upper secondary level education. Next we will ask whether and how individual interests at the secondary level influence the choice of learning environments (e.g., courses or majors). We will continue by discussing investigations of actualized interests either as conditions or as consequences of experiences in educational settings at the secondary level. Finally, we will address instruction by discussing the possibility of creating learning environments in which interest can be supported." Forschungsmethode: deskriptive Studie.
