Abstract | The authors give an account of an action research project "in which three primary school teachers researched aspects of multiculturalism and anti- racism in local schools ... Our purpose is to communicate our research findings, tell how these findings were created and used, and consider the implications for future initiatives of this kind. It is a practical account." The authorities of the Scottish region where the action research took place, had produced "multicultural and anti-racist guidelines". Their implementation in a primary school was evaluated in this study. In an other school Asian children were interviewed about racist incidents they had experienced; the results were fed back to children in order to gather their reactions. In a third school "which typified the 'no problems here' viewpoint a racist incident story was told to the children and some of them said: 'It's natural. A lot of people do this'". Black children were regarded "of such low status that they were likely victims of the school bully." (DIPF/Bi.). |
