Abstract	The case study reviews how the changes and challenges for the labour market and the vocational education system has been faced in Hungary since the late 80s and 90s. Section two describes the socio- economic transformation process in recent years. The creation of the legal and institutional framework is highlighted in section three. Essential elements of policy and legislation (regulations and measures, social partners, the role of the government and of the trade unions, the content of technical and vocational education and certification) are analysed in section four. Section five is dedicated to the new labour policy in relation to technical and vocational education. Attention is focused on labour-market training and continuing vocational education in section six. Hungarian technical and vocational education as a matter of priority is examined in section seven.
