Abstract	The international sub-group "Standards in Vocational Education and Training" set up by the Advisory Forum of the European Training Foundation met in 1995, 1996 and 1997. At these meetings it addressed the following subjects: contents of occupational standards; - procedure for their development; implementation and evaluation. The results of these three meetings are documented in this manual. It comprises the following parts: 2) standards - a main element in the transformation process of vocational education and training: definition, components, functions; 3) aids for the forward shaping of occupational standards; 4) alternative models for the shaping of standards in vocational training (examination model - an output model, occupation model - a process-oriented input model with outcome control, combination of occupation model and modular model, initial evaluation and trends); 5) Experts involved in standard development; 6) procedure for the elaboration of occupational standards; 7) information on implementation, evaluation and compliance with standards; 8) national examples of experience with the development of standards in the Czech Republic, in Slovenia, Latvia and in the Ukraine.
