Abstract | In this article, I discuss the main features that define the outlook of university graduates in Spain... In the first place, I discuss the main points of the debate on this subject that Spanish society has carried on for the last 15 years in scientific and political circles... In the second place, I describe the evolution of the Spanish job market in this sector... The job market for Spanish university graduates has its positive and negative sides, as well as differences that are heightened according to sex and the occupational fields under consideration... If we compare the evolution of this group to those of the rest of the Spanish working population, the balance is positive. If we consider their situation from the point of view of the investment that Spanish society has made in them, it is less so. Thirdly, I discuss some existing information and analyses regarding the types of qualification and skills required by companies, and changes in the makeup of the jobs... Finally, I will deal with the situation of Spanish universities, in particular how educational institutions and administrations have reacted to the employment problems of university graduates and the relative devaluation of degrees.
