Abstract | This book is divided into four major parts: foundations, basic psychological processes, personality and social behavior. An Editor's Note opens every chapter, tying it to the overall themes of the book and to the other chapters. Each chapter reviews the latest theoretical and empirical literature in each topic area, yet goes well beyond an encyclopedic review of the existing research. The contributors not only objectively evaluate literature, including limitations to current theory and knowledge but also present their vision of the future in their respective areas, provide frank discussions of what they believe is necessary to achieve these visions, and outline work that will guide future research. An introductory chapter describes the major themes of the book while an epilogue issues a challenge to future students and researchers in the field of cross-cultural psychology. (DIPF/Orig.). |
