Abstract | This handbook is for history teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum designers and those curious about history education. Stressing "how" to teach rahter than "what" to teach, it encourages teachers to broaden their approach to European and world history rather than use them to illustrate only national pasts and concerns. Besides a study of selected themes and topics, the handbook covers teaching sensitive issues, "reading" visual archives, analysing "history" on television and the Internet and assesing the new technologies as well as the student's own history textbook. Some of these can be rich sources of history, unique to the 20th century and onwards, but they still have not been made part of standard teacher training in Europe. (DIPF/Orig.). |
