Abstract | The article examines the labour market prospects of doctors in social sciences in France. It is often said that graduates have better employment prospects and this is globally true. But how far doing a thesis for a doctorate degree is a "plus" on the job market is a different matter. The authors aptly examine the various factors that affect the transition to work for doctors in social sciences. ... Drawing on a survey of the careers of graduates from the [university of Grenoble], we stress the factors that determine different types of career paths: academic positions, permanent positions outside academia, temporary positions and unemployment. How research for thesis was carried out determines career prospects. The role of training through research is therefore crucial in the career of doctoral graduates. (DIPF/Orig.) |
