Abstract | The book is an introduction to the currently viable classic and contemporary theories of human development: what they are, how they are developed, and how they are validated. Features include: 1) An integrative organization that helps students understand and identify the common factors among theories by examining them as families of theories from three integrative world view orientations: the mechanistic, the organismic, and the contextualist. 2) An integration of methodology whereby the methods used to study human development are examined in relationship to each of the theories presented in the text. 3) Coverage of classic and contemporary theories.
