Abstract	The major purpose of this study was to find out the views held by teachers towards maltreatment in ... schools in Ethiopia. An attempt was also made to determine the prevalence, causes, and manifestation of child maltreatment in schools.... The findings of the study revealed the existence of maltreatment in the schools included in the study.... A number of ways in which child maltreatment manifests itself in the schools were identified. These include the use of corporal punishment, asking students to kneel down or stand facing the blackboard ... , rapping the students on the head with the knuckles, and hitting students with chalk, sometimes even with the fist. According to the respondents, the major causes of child maltreatment ... were firstly the misbehaviour of the students, including failure to do homework ..., chatting or quarreling in the class, and secondly large class sizes.... The study revealed that the teachers regard the infliction of corporal punishment and other forms of maltreatment as disciplinary techniques. (DIPF/orig.).
