Abstract | The cross-country review contains 1) a comparative analysis of the current situation in teacher and trainer training in the 12 countries ... 2) a description of needs and obstacles in teacher training, including a presentation of examples of best practices, with the author's recent 1 1/2 years' consultancy experience in the "DELATE" project on pre-service vocational teacher and trainer education in Latvia ... 3) a number of recommendations on school-company interplay, the pedagogical development of teachers and trainers and new strategies in modern vocational teacher training, which derive from an attempt to integrate into the review the concrete experiences gained by the author in his recent work in this area in the three Baltic countries, with a view to separating myth from reality and coming up with realistic proposals, and 4) in an annex, short descriptions of the situation with regard to teacher and trainer training in each of the 12 countries, which are extracted from the country case studies and are presented, partly, to provide a broader and more succinct description of the countries and, partly, to substantiate some of the arguments put forward in the text.
