Abstract | The study which this article reports analysed Russian literature, history and social science school textbooks from the period of Perestroika and the first post-communist years. Thus, the hypothesis was tested "that after the collapse of communism in Russia no substantial decrease of dogmatism in the ideology of education has taken place.... This meant that manifest changes in the content of educational messages were not accompanied by a deep latent transformation in cognitive organization." So, ideological change would follow a type of change characterized by the fact "that ideological change in Russian society has not been complete, and that, correspondingly, changes in educational ideology will also be incomplete." This hypothesis was supported by many findings of the study which indicated "the remarkable persistence of dogmatism in literature textbooks, as well as the thematic redistributions of dogmatism within texts."
