Abstract | Scottish Schools: Costs 1995-97 is one of four reports in the Information for Parents series published by the HM Inspectors of Schools" (HMI) Audit Unit. These reports stem from "The Parents' Charter in Scotland commitment to provide more and better information about quality and standards in Scottish schools. This fourth report on school costs continues the work started in 1993 in making such information available and drawing attention to some aspects to be considered in the interpretation of costs. The format of this 1996 report is in line with changes that were made to the 1995 report following a comprehensive review and consultation. The publication of reports on school costs along with reports on other key indicators enables readers to share information about quality and standards. Factors besides those included in this report should be considered when assessing the performance of schools. Information about school costs should be set alongside indicators of achievement and progress, the quality of the learning and teaching, the ethos of the school, attendance and, for a secondary school, examination results and the destinations of its leavers. Further relevant information is presented in the HMI report Standards and Quality in Scottish Schools 1992-95. (DIPF/Orig.). |
