Abstract	Action research on intercultural animation in nursery schools marked the beginning of the elaboration of teachers' training programmes. An experiment, conducted with the collaboration of psychologists and nursery school teachers, has led to the establishment of a "workshop of the whole world" of intercultural activities. The experiment had an impact on the institution, on teachers, on families, and on the social and emotional behaviour of the children. It proved beneficial at the level of language development and communication, leading to awareness of the importance of socio-emotional factors in the development of language and other capacities of children. This global outlook inspired the organization of subsequent in-service teacher training programmes. (...) The training emphasizes active educational methods that take into account emotional, social, and political implications in the learning of a language by an immigrant. It also gives priority to group process as a basic work resource enabling those in charge of a mission to help their colleagues to adopt educational innovations.
