Abstract | The "old" European schools have continued to make considerable gains in implementing the five European schools principles namely: - Intercultural and International education. Staff exchanges and pupil mobility schemes, foreign cultures integral to the curriculum; - Extra curricular lessons extending pastoral care, satisfying interests, and helping to find future jobs; - Co-operation with the community making them a centre of activity and the community supporting their aims; - Reformpedagogik featuring self determined methods of learning; - Ecological education as a subject facing the challenges of today's society. The key criterion is whether each school has implemented a whole school development plan including a European Development plan by September 1996. A crucial test of principles in action is whether "regular teaching" and "project activities" can in fact be distinguished. (DIPF/text taken from the original). |
