Abstract | The book presents the results of the work undertaken in the framework of the interagency ILO-UNESCO Task Force on Austerity, Adjustment and Human Resources, established in 1989 ... . This book summarizes and compares the experiences of five countries in the responses of the social sub-sectors education and training to austerity and to structural adjustment measures. The research is focused on the context and the process that governed specific country responses to economic crisis situations.... Part I discusses the overall context of austerity and structural adjustment and their implications for education and training, and introduces the research approach of the Task Force. Part II summarizes the findings of the case studies untertaken in Brazil, Costa Rica, Hungary, Senegal and Tanzania. Part III explores the findings, inferences and implications of the case studies within the larger framework of generally available knowledge on education and training-sector policy development in relation to economic crisis and to international cooperation. (Most of the essays will be documented separately). (DIPF/orig.). |
