Abstract | The increase in numbers of international students studying in Australian universities has been accompanied by an increasing awareness of the problems these students may encounter regarding living and studying in a new academic context. This paper draws on case studies of the academic acculturation of students from India in an Australian [MBA program]. It goes beyond previous analyses by exploring not only the kinds of changes which occur in students approaches to learning, but also the role Australian universities play in the maintenance of hegemonic knowledge relations and in particular the techniques which are used to encourage students to adopt dominant forms of knowledge acquisition and analysis.
