| Abstract | This contribution has the objective to open a discussion and to identify problems which concern the presently prevailing concept of lifelong learning. The successful first European Conference on "Lifelong learning and its impact on social and regional development" at the University of Bremen, Germany, has shown that the further development of the lifelong learning-concept is not only a matter of educational policies, but more even a challenge to educational sciences opening up to Europeanisation. The European Year of Lifelong Learning could only have a symbolic character and was aimed at promoting a specific concept of lifelong learning. The discourse in educational sciences has to concentrate on the fact of lifelong learning, in order to discuss the consequences for the educational system. (DIPF/orig.). |
