| Abstract | The aftermath of apartheid in South Africa has resulted in a low interest and achievement in science for most of South Africa's school learners. This paper describes the development and evaluation of a pilot package as a prelude to the production of a series incorporating the use of puppets in video, comics and print materials for higher primary science. The pilot package was tried out with selected school children and their teachers, and evaluated by a group of science educators. The feedback obtained showed that science educators perceived the package as enrichment rather than mainstream curriculum material. A central issue arising from the field testing was how teachers' philosophies influenced the way the package was used. The method of development and evaluation also proved to be a useful model for the development of future multimedia packages. (Autorenreferat). |
