Abstract | This article investigates the dynamics of power within the curriculum of English language education in Central and Eastern Europe. The distribution of language resources after the Cold War raises questions about benevolence and hegemony. Much of this article focuses on Bulgaria as a case study, though the dynamics of power involved in the distribution of language resources are similar throughout this geographical region. The discussion begins by addressing the entrance of a new dominant second language in the region. Then it proceeds to an examination of post-Cold War curricular needs - particularly as a result of the significant increase in interest toward English-language education. Finally, the discussion focuses on curricular resources and the distribution of language aid. (DIPF/orig.) |
