Abstract | This paper presents findings from an exploratory study of student beliefs and attitudes about multicultural education (ME). The study takes place in the context of a college-wide ME curriculum reform process at a college of education in a major research university located in the southeast United States. Principal findings are that students view ME as being important because it provides imformation about culturally different groups that will be useful in their future careers. The majority of students believe that ME is valuable but a small minority are adamantly opposed to ME on ideological as well as personal grounds. Implications for faculty who incorporate ME into their course work are discussed. (DIPF/orig.) |
