Abstract	The Council of Europe's Network for School Links and Exchanges, established five years ago, works for the promotion of school exchanges between the countries of Europe. Organised in the spirit of participation and mutual respect, international links and exchanges between pupils contribute to the construction of European society. This publication, which is specifically designed for use in lower secondary schools, includes working material to prepare a school exchange; enter into correspondence with a class in another country; learn to discover others, and improve one's knowledge of oneself, through the exchange of questions, photos, and other information. It encourages the user to look into a variety of matters, including language, writing, geography, history, etc. Vis-à-vis can therefore be a tool for intercultural learning, and contribute to the fight against intolerance, racism and xenophobia, which is one of the foremost preoccupations of the Council of Europe.
