Abstract | At the Leonardo da Vinci Products Fair held in Brussels in April 1996, a number of studies developed in this context of the former EU action-programmes in vocational training programmes (COMETT, EUROTECNET, FORCE, LINGUA and PETRA), were put on display for the training public. The interest shown in them by those visiting the fair prompted DG XXII to reflect on how these studies could be brought to the attention of a much larger audience. As a result, it was decided to produce a directory containing resumes of the studies of the former programmes, in particular those relating to the principal aims of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme. It was felt that this directory would be of interest to those in the general world of training, through providing them with an overview of the work which has taken place. Furthermore, as the first stage in the research process is to review the existing literature, this directory should be of great benefit to all those carrying out European research. This is particularly true of the Survey and Analysis Measure of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme. The present directory contains summaries of over 100 monographs published between the late 1980s and the mid 1990s in the framework of the former programmes. The purpose of the research measures in those programmes was, first to carry out studies to promote an understanding of issues related to the specific objectives of the different programmes, and second, to contribute towards building a European tradition of policy-oriented and action-oriented research in vocational training.
