Abstract | Computers do affect what teachers do ... We see computers more as a stimulant, an important new symbol with which teachers interact in a complex way, and we will illustrate some aspects of that complexity. In this paper we draw on a case study to argue that the existence of innovative practice associated with the introduction of computers in the classroom has less to do with the advent of technology that with the teacher's pre-existing conception of practice. Out studies suggest that pre-existing pedagogical intensions must be considered when trying to understand what teachers do with computers. ... In the firts part of the paper we look at the rhetoric surrounding the potential of computers to effect teaching. In the second section we present the case of a teacher to illustrate the interaction between new technologies and traditional practice. Finally, we consider what this case signifies for our understanding of improving practice. (DIPF/Text uebernommen) |
