Abstract	The further education sector hasn't always been portrayed in a positive light. However, over the last 15 years the sector, which includes all FE general colleges, sixth-form colleges and specialist FE colleges across the United Kingdom, continues to increase the diversity of its services to the individual, business and the wider community in a way that has had both direct and indirect benefits to the country's prosperity and welfare. It is therefore vital that people celebrate these institutions in order to raise the profile of the FE sector and encourage, maintain and further increase the drive and determination demonstrated by these organisations to improve learning outcomes across the country. That is why the Association of Colleges' Beacon Awards were established in 1994 and why they continue to recognise outstanding and exemplary teaching and learning practice in further education across the UK. The AoC Beacon Awards help to make known nationally the incredible contribution that FE professionals are making to their local communities across the country, not only in terms of increasing skills levels and employability but also their contribution to social justice through their inclusiveness and promotion of equality and diversity, the delivery of personalised and inclusive learning, economic regeneration at both a local and regional level and the building and sustaining of prosperous and harmonious communities. This article describes the AoC Beacon Awards and how the awards provide organisations with models of improvement. (ERIC).
