Abstract | In a previous issue of this journal, four present and former editors of the most prestigious journals provide their judgment on the current field of gifted education (Ambrose, VanTassel-Baska, Coleman, & Cross, 2010). They believe that the field is insular, fractured, porous, and contested, and they provide many examples to illustrate their viewpoint. Although this author agrees substantially with their portrait, he was concerned that the authors stopped with the diagnosis--instead of presenting a proposed treatment. This paper is designed to say (a) why the field is the way it is and (b) what can be done about it. (Contains 1 table.) (ERIC). |
