Abstract | A school is a home for students. For some it will be the best, most friendly, and welcoming home they will experience. It is a place where students will spend much of their waking hours for a large portion of the year. Within the school, that special place that gives students a warm feeling is the library media center. It is unique to the rest of the building and quickly draws students into it to see the many opportunities it has to offer. In the media center, students can explore their interests, travel to all regions of the world, ride a dog sled in The Iditarod, become a Tour de France bicyclist, experience the world of science, live the life of a famous person in history, and explore the unknown, to name only a few. This article discusses the functions as well as the benefits of library media centers on student learning. (ERIC). |
