AbstractSocial, political, and technological changes in the United States during the twentieth century have greatly increased the number of living grandparents potentially available to young children (Clingempeel et al., 1992). In 2000, one-third of American parents were baby boomers (Longeno & Earle, 1996). By 2030, this cohort of potential grandparents will be 66-84 years old and comprise 20% of the total population (Simon-Rusinowitz & Kroch, 1996). After nearly a half century of research findings on grandparenting, a clear justification for sharing books about grandparents with young children rests in the notion that there is currently no singular, unequivocal description of the grandparent role. This article discusses the need to talk to children about grandparents and their roles and the importance of sharing resources such as stories and other literature-based activities that help to demonstrate the variety of ways people can carry out grandparenting roles and behaviors. Seventeen books are reviewed and recommended. (Author).
