Abstract | The article emphasizes and illustrates the importance of precise, coherent, and continuous home-school communication to facilitate parental involvement useful in promoting the educational success of children in urban schools. Two sets of parents and teachers were interviewed to obtain their perspectives on how their children were performing in school. The interviews were presented as case studies highlighting the level of congruence in teacher and parent perceptions. The role of the teacher in the collaborative approach with parents is presented. The article provides strategies that teachers can employ to establish and develop effective home-school partnerships. (Contains 1 table.) (Author). |
