Abstract | The "Educational Media and Technology Yearbook" has become a standard reference in many libraries and professional collections. It provides a valuable historical record of current ideas and developments in the field. Following an introduction by Karah Zane Hagins, the book is arranged into five parts. Part one of this updated volume, "Trends and Issues in Learning, Design and Technology," presents an array of chapters that develop some of the current themes, ideas, and developments in the field. It contains the following chapters: (1) Issues and Trends in Instructional Technology: Increased Use of Mobile Technologies and Digital Content to Provide Untethered Access to Training and Learning Opportunities (Abbie Brown and Tim Green); (2) Design Talk in Teacher Teams: What Happens During the Collaborative Design of ICT-Rich Material for Early Literacy Learning? (Ferry Boschman, Susan McKenney, Jules Pieters, and Joke Voogt); (3) Social Learning in a Distributed Environment: Lessons Learned from Online Design Education (Benjamin H. George and Andrew Walker); (4) Understanding Help-Seeking Behavior of Students' in a Flipped Classroom: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach (Erkan Er and Michael Orey); (5) Digging Deeper into Online Communities of Inquiry at Purdue: Research-Informed Insights into Theory and Practice (Jennifer C. Richardson and Kadir Kozan); (6) Real-Time Mutual Gaze Perception Enhances Collaborative Learning and Collaboration Quality (Bertrand Schneider and Roy Pea); (7) Critical Thinking in the Field of Educational Technology: Approaches, Projects, and Challenges (Stephen C. Yanchar, Andrew S. Gibbons, Bruce W. Gabbitas, and Michael T. Matthews); and (8) Exploring the Cultural Dimensions of Instructional Design: Models, Instruments, and Future Studies (Minjuan Wang, and Steve Schlichtenmyer). Part Two, "Leadership Profiles," provides biographical sketches of the careers of instructional technology leaders. Tonia A. Dousay, provides an introduction to this chapter and also authors the biographical summaries of Edward P. Caffarella and Dr. Sharon Smaldino. Part Three, "Organizations and Associations in North America" (Michael Orey) and Part Four, "Worldwide List of Graduate Programs in Learning, Design, Technology, Information or Libraries" (Michael Orey) are, respectively, directories of instructional technology-related organizations and institutions of higher learning offering degrees in related fields. Finally, Part Five, the "Mediagraphy" (Sheng-Shiang Tseng) presents an annotated listing of selected current publications related to the field. (ERIC). |
