Abstract | Studies have shown that the occurrence of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) on college campuses is prevalent. However, few to no studies have examined the occurrence of IPV at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This study examined IPV at an urban Historical Black College and University through a comparison study. This study compared the exposure of physical and psychological abuse among traditional college male and female students. This study also compared the exposure of physical and psychological abuse among three age intervals (18-19; 20-21; 22-24). This comparison will assist in determining whether gender and/or age are a significant factor of traditional college students' exposure to Intimate Partner Violence. Experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. This study used the randomized posttest design. Four hypotheses were formulated. The number of respondents was 242 traditional college students. This study was conducted at an urban Historically Black College and University in a large city in the United States of America. Students were given two surveys to complete during their designated lecture time. The amount of physical abuse experienced and initiated by the respondents was assessed by the Conflict Tactics Scale 2 Short Form. The Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse scale was used to assess the prevalence of psychological abuse experienced and initiated by the respondents. The statistical results of the study indicated that all four hypotheses were proven as true. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
