Abstract | A 1-year project was undertaken to continue implementation, evaluation, and revision of a model advanced technology partnership between Elgin Community College (ECC) and the Northern Kane Regional Delivery System in Illinois. The model program, which originally included three high schools, was expanded to include five additional high schools in three school districts. Tech prep program enrollment was increased from 13 high school seniors during the pilot year to 43 seniors during FY92, and 5 additional programs (in child care, electronics, heating/air-conditioning, machine tools/computer-aided manufacturing, and welding) were added to the 2 pilot-year programs (automotive and computer-aided design/drafting). Other major project accomplishments included additional planning and coordination meetings, an agreement to use area vocational school facilities for program activities, and additional solicitation of community and industry support (including scholarships and summer internship opportunities). Thirty-nine students successfully completed the FY92 program year, and 69% of them planned to return to ECC to complete its associate degree program. Various program materials, including marketing brochures, student handbooks, and guidance planning sheets, were developed. (Application/information sheets for each of the seven Tech Prep programs are appended.) (MN) |
