| Abstract | This article summarizes recent information on the changing role of professional guidance and the linkages between different services in the Netherlands. The article is organized in three sections. Section 1 highlights some fundamental characteristics of the Dutch educational system. Section 2 examines the structure of the existing guidance services in the Netherlands. Of particular note are: (1) the location of guidance services; (2) the focus of the services; (3) the range of guidance activities; (4) the financing of the services; and (5) staffing and training. Section 3 examines two new initiatives of linkages: (1) regionalization of career service institutions and education-employment liaison; and (2) the establishment of rural service centers.
