Abstract | The purpose of this handbook is to familiarize the user with the organization of the California State University-Sacramento (CSUS) library. As part of a course requirement, the handbook is designed to provide the student with information necessary to perform assignments in the library independently of librarians and support staff, and as a reference source for the user while a student at CSUS. The four units and self-paced assignments provided cover the following: (1) library facilities and services (self-guided library tour, locating and checking out materials); (2) basic search strategies (search strategies for books and media, using the card catalog effectively, and encyclopedias); (3) periodical literature (periodical indexes and abstracts, newspapers and newspaper indexes); and (4) critical thinking (evaluating sources and research strategies). A glossary and an index are provided, and the assignments that accompany the workbook are attached. (CGD) |
