Abstract | The training of psychologists in Venezuelan universities is examined. Information is provided on the following: student admissions, tuition, libraries, laboratories, textbooks, the training of professors, employment practices for professors, the structure of undergraduate courses through chairs, tenure, degrees offered, and the university programs offered in psychology and the institutions offering them. A comparison of Venezuelan and U.S. psychology programs is presented. The Venezuelan psychology program is an undergraduate five-year program. Masters degrees and doctorates are at present optional degrees for specialized further study. Undergraduate students receive professionally oriented training with few liberal arts courses, and after graduation are expected to practice in all areas of psychology. It is concluded that graduates of Venezuelan schools of psychology are well qualified for U.S. graduate programs. (SW) |
