AbstractBased on the program known as the Secondary Individualized Learning Center developed at the Lexington School for the Deaf (Jackson Heights, New York), the resource guide provides a curriculum for severely handicapped deaf adolescents, who, because of their deafness and added learning or physical problems, are unable to successfully function in the traditional academic school environment. The curriculum stresses prework and life skills along with functional communication. The document is divided into 14 sections which focus on either independent living or work related skills: clothing, cooking, health education, money management, sex education, food shopping, travel training, adaptive behaviors, independent work skills, job finding skills, personal welfare, responsible behaviors, work ethics, and work related social skills. Sections are further divided into sheets containing objectives (i.e., students will be able to identify all coins) and related activities (such as making up price tags) for each area goal (for example, student will have understanding of basic money concepts). Appended are assessment forms and activity sheets. (SBH)
