Abstract | This study addresses issues related to networking among: 1. education decision makers, 2. educational theorists and researchers, 3. education administrators, and 4. (innovative) schools and teachers. ... The networking study is divided into two connected phases. In a first phase some major "success factors" of effective networking strategies focussing on school improvement in general and the adoption of ICT for schooling of tomorrow in particular will be explored. Based on 1. conceptual analyses, and 2. analyses of a number of some already existing, research-oriented and multidisciplinary (successful?) networks dealing with the issues "Schooling for Tomorrow" in general and the role of virtual learning environments (VLE) for school improvement in particular, ERNIST will develop a number of scenarios for successful networking strategies with potential for (substantial) education improvement. ... In a second phase of the study, a new (research oriented and multi-disciplinary) network on "Schooling for Tomorrow" will be established that will adopt - as far as possible - "success factors" for network building as analyzed in phase 1 of this study. The effects of a network (strategy) considering in an integrative format conclusions developed in the first two phases of the study will be explored. This action research oriented change study should bring about more appropriate knowledge and practices on effective networking in multidisciplinary groups dealing with school improvement.
