Abstract | While the number of immigrants decreases in Germany since 2005 a fierce debate has stirred up the country over the total failure of policy on immigrant integration. Analyzing the generational progress in integration however demonstrates a more positive situation. The results of programs could be improved if they were focused on fundamental barriers to integration such as legal insecurity, inequality in access to higher education and to jobs. What is needed is a deeper understanding of how integration processes work rather than preset ideas how it should work. (DIPF/Orig.). |
