Abstract	This report provides an overview and interpretation of European developments in the area of identification, assessment and recognition of non-formal learning. It clarifies the challenges faced by those trying to develop methodologies and institutions in this area and presents actual initiatives at national and European levels. A number of prerequisites for the future development of methodologies and systems are also presented. The annex of the report contains a glossary on the most common concepts used. (DIPF/Orig.).
