| Abstract | "In order to understand minority issues at the regional level, we shall try to clarify the many different faces of regional minorities, using examples from Europe and elsewhere to support our argument.... In this study, we shall confine ourselves to regional linguistic minorities with a territory in which the language has played an important part in history and still does today. As to methodology, we shall make use of information and approaches drawn from the socio-historical, educational, economic and political fields." The author focuses on how the following problems are solved: political and cultural autonomy rights of minorities, linguistic policies, teaching of regional languages and the use of regional languages in education. The examples are taken from: Brittany (France), Swiss Jura, Indian minorities in Latin America and Catalonia (Spain). (DIPF/Bi.). |
