| Abstract | In the standard (or off-line) tests used with aphasic patients to assess language processing, the response given by subjects is not temporally tied to the variable being studied and it does not therefore always reflect the level of processing under investigation. In addition, the response is often influenced by the context and the subject's encyclopedic knowledge, and it is therefore both reflective and strategic. The paper presents a new battery of on-line speech comprehension tests in French. First it outlines the aims of the project and discusses the guiding principles that underlie it. Then it summarizes the first two tests (already presented in GROSJEAN et al. 1997) and describes in detail the next two tests: one assesses meaning processing during word recognition and the other examines morpho-syntactic processing. All four tests give very reliable effects with individual controls (covering the adult age-span) and produce interesting results with the aphasic patients already tested. (Verlag, adapt.). |
